- Black, navy or other dark color fabric for background -- 1 to 1-1/2yds if you want to make the big project, or 1/2yd if you just want to make one star
- 1/2yd each of three or four different color fabrics for star points

- Sewing machine with cords, etc.
- Regular sewing foot
- Pencil

- Foundation paper*

- Add-a-Quarter Ruler*
- Add Enough Ruler*
- Judy Mathieson's Mariner's Compass Quilts book*
