Sashiko Techniques

Your Babylock Sashiko is more versatile than you think! In this class we will explore echo quilting, "free motion" look meandering quilting, woven couching with yarn, and binding!

BabyLock Sashiko sewing machine in good working order
Pins or wonder clips to hold binding as you sew it
505 spray baste to baste layers together before class

1/2 yard of muslin for practice sewing
1 panel
enough fabric to back the panel
1/2 yard fabric to bind the panel
enough batting for the half yard of muslin AND the panel, probably a crib size package

1-2 spools of solid cotton thread to go with/contrast your panel
1-2 balls of yarn to go with/contrast your panel
Optional: 1 spool of verigated thread and/or one spool of metallic thread, we may have time to play with one or both of these depending on how fast the class goes and how much you want to embellish your panel

Please turn both your muslin and your panel into full quilt sandwiches before class (ex: muslin, batting, muslin - layered and spray basted with 505 spray; panel, batting, backing - layered and spray basted)
Please cut your binding fabric into 2.5" wide strips. If you know how to make binding (45 degree join and press in half), feel free to go ahead and do this before class as well.
Make sure your Sashiko is happy - oil the hook(!!), check the needle and stitch finger and make sure they are clean and not bent.

This is a BabyLock Sashiko MACHINE class, NOT a hand work class. If you are interested in this specialty machine, please give us a call or come by the shop to check one out!
