Love Remains:

The Blue Thread Project

After so many heartbreaking floods this summer, I felt the need, once again, to do something. I know so many of you feel that way, too.

What’s left after the waters recede?
Love.

It’s always love.

I wanted to give us all a way to pause, breathe deeply, and show the love that binds us all together.

I’ve teamed up with the amazing administrator of the popular and incredibly helpful Facebook group, “I Found Your Stuff – WNC.” She’s helped reunite hundreds of cherished photos, quilts, keepsakes, and memories with people who lost them. She has recently also launched sister groups to support flood survivors across the country.

We’re inviting anyone and everyone to decorate a 4" square of fabric with words, stitches, or whatever your heart wants to express. Please also sew a straight stitch in blue thread on your square. Any shade of blue is fine, and the stitch can be any length.

White, light blue, light green, or other pale background fabric works. We have fabric, permanent markers, and pre-threaded sewing machines at the shop if you’d like to make a square while you're here.

We’re reallyhoping quilting groups, families, businesses, and community organizations will also gather squares for this project.

If you don’t have light-colored fabric scraps, stop by. We'll give you some! Decorated squares can be mailed or dropped off at the store.

We don’t have a firm deadline, but we’re hoping to finish the quilt in time for the first anniversary of Hurricane Helene, so sooner is better than later.

Each square will carry a message of hope, solidarity, or remembrance for those affected by flooding, near or far, including many of us still healing from Helene’s devastation.

It’s a way for us to take a moment, pick up a pen or a needle, and say, “I care. I see you. I’m with you.”

We don’t yet know what the final quilt will look like.
We don’t yet know what it will say.
We don’t even know where it will go.

But we do know this:

It will go where it's needed.

It will bring love.

And it will matter.

Please share this with everyone and let's make this a really big quilt!!
