The Tarheel State Quilt Class - Beginner Piecing!

Are you from North Carolina or have a loved one who lives in The Tar Heel state? If yes, this is the course for you! Dig into your fabric scrap bins and create the state of North Carolina using fabric in this 2-day session. You may not finish your quilt within these 2 days; however, you will learn the skills necessary to complete your project at home & future pixelated patterns!
The Tar Heel State is part of the Home Pattern Series, design by Brooke Stambersky of Brooke’s Bitchin’ Stitches, LLC ( The Tar Heel State pattern is included in the cost of this course!

This full color pattern includes 3 quilt designs (a throw size quilt and 2 mini size quilts), step by step instructions, and applique templates for the mini quilts. During this 2-day course, we will focus on the throw size quilt only (throw/wall hanging size quilt, 70" x 52").

Course level: All levels including beginner
Dates: August 5th AND 6th
Times: 10:30 AM-4:30 PM, 30 min break


- The Tar Heel State Pattern is included in the cost of the class, Asheville Cotton Company will provide pattern when you pay for course.
 * Please read pattern before class, pattern details the amount of fabric needed for the entire throw size quilt. During this 2-day course, we will focus on the throw size quilt only (throw/wall hanging size quilt, 70" x 52").

- Ten Sisters Easy Piecing Grids
 *** Purchase the 2-inch finished, 12 panels package
These will not be available from Asheville Cotton Co, so make sure you purchase this well ahead of time.

- Fabric (during class we will be focus on building our pixelated pattern onto the Ten Sisters Easy Piecing Grids)
This quilt is perfect to use your scraps!
Have fun with the fabric you choose, fabric colors can vary. Choose your favorite NC sport team colors, NC college colors, fabrics that represent NC, the options are endless! Please note, pattern directions are specific to the colors on pattern cover.

- Sewing Machine with piecing foot, needles, thread and bobbins
- Stickers or labels that will be used to label Ten Sisters Easy Piecing Grids (I personally pin a post-it note to my grids when assembling)
- Applique pressing sheet
- Paper towel (after each press, wipes applique pressing sheet with paper towel to clean off grid residue)
- Small iron and ironing pad
- Scissors
- Pen/pencil
- Lunch (we will break for 30 mins for lunch)


Please come to class with your 2.5” squares already cut, for the throw size quilt you will need to cut the following qty of squares per color. If you have an AccuQuilt, this is a great time to use it to save time in cutting the 2.5” squares!

Throw Size Quilt Qty of 2.5” Squares to Cut before class;

Assorted Green Fabrics (Prints and/or Solids) 52 (2.5” squares)
Assorted Brown Fabrics (Prints and/or Solids) 66 (2.5” squares)
Assorted Blue Fabrics (Prints and/or Solids) 105 (2.5” squares)
Assorted Beige Fabrics (Prints and/or Solids) 569 (2.5” squares)
