Thread painting and bobbin work with Chris Eichner "Tree of Many Colors"

Lovely Autumn panel thread painted and embellished with bobbin work specialty thread Pearl cotton which is included in the class fee.

This beautiful autumn tree of many colors comes to life as you learn free motion and bobbin work.

SUPPLIES:

• Tree panel, available at ACC
• Sulky Cutaway stabilizer cut to the size of panel with extensions attached, place on the back
side of panel securing with 1 pin in each corner
• machine needle Microtex (sharp) 80/12, Topstitch needle 90/14 or metallic needle 90/14 to be used during bobbin work and metallic threads
• Snippet scissors or small sharp scissors
• Darning needle (to pull pearl cotton to wrong side with bobbin work)
• Free motion foot (check your manual) bring manual to class for reference about your machine
• optional extension table to fit your model machine
• Sharpie markers of colors represented in panel
• pen Micron 05
• OPTIONAL: couching free motion foot to be used if your machine is problematic during
bobbin work technique check your feet book for your machine
• OPTIONAL: special bobbin case for bobbin play see your specific machine
model. This is not a requirement
• THREADS: for bobbin suggested; Aurifil, Sulky Cotton & Steele, Mettler Or your favorite 50 wt. thread
• Embroidery threads to embellish leaves, tree, sky 40 weight
• Gold, aqua, green, look at your panel to see colors you would like to use for embellishing
• Sulky variegated 30 weight threads for embellishing and bobbin work
• Suggested (I used) you can vary these colors according to what you see.
• The 30 weight threads are needed to pull the pearl cotton up but you may also use these threads to embellish.
• Sulky # 733-1005 black
• #733-4055 blue variegated or 733-1293 solid royal blue
• #733-4070 light blue/pink variegated sky
• #733-1181 sienna leaves
• #733-4065 leaves
• #733-4006 yellow/orange/pink leaves or 733-0567 solid yellow gold
• #733-4033 purple/pink/gray branches
• #733-4125 yellow/aqua water reflections
• Metallic thread
• Sulky Gold or your favorite metallic gold, I used #965-0905 Sulky “Poly Sparkle”, Poly
Sparkle #965-0574, salmon peach
• Sulky SLIVER #145-8040 Sliver is the type not the color
• Included in class fee are the pearl cottons for bobbin work which are hand wound on the bobbin
• Machine must be in good working order, check for lint before class!
• Know how to adjust your upper thread tension, how to lower feed dog,
• also if you have a vertical spool pin holder or thread stand, bring that



HOMEWORK: three inch wide muslin extensions sewn to perimeter of panel PRIOR TO CLASS
• Asheville Cotton has all the 30 weight variegated thread
• be familiar with all your sewing selections especially if you have a
computerized machine, know how to select zigzag stitch and how to adjust
the width.
• Bring your machine manual
• Bag lunch is suggested 1⁄2 hour lunch
