Scrappy Applique Workshop



- This class is perfect for beginner quilters as well as more advanced students interested in learning this raw-edge applique technique. Students will learn Shannon Brinkley’s simple and fun raw-edge applique technique, basic quilting techniques, and basic free motion quilting. Students will have a blast choosing beautiful fabric that, once collaged together,
will create a really striking and modern look.

- Students will take away the finished or nearly finished quilt top! Students will be able to choose from a variety of templates-

SUPPLIES:
Please confirm which size project you want to make & refer to chart below.
(background fabric, backing fabric, batting & binding fabric).
Please review your pattern before class to ensure you have the correct supplies.

-Pattern, instructions & template printed.
-Background fabric, backing fabric, batting and binding- per quantity detailed above unless your pattern specifies other amounts.
-Any type of fabric can be used for the background fabric. If you plan to satin stitch your applique project and will be using a heavy-weight background fabric such as canvas, tear away iron on stabilizer is unnecessary.
-Various fabric for the collage applique piece (5-10 fat eighths would be perfect, I recommend quilting cotton fabric), unless your pattern specifies other amounts.
-Thread that coordinates with the collage fabric or contrasting color for a bold look.
-Bobbin thread (60wt.)
-A large teflon sheet or parchment paper
-2.5 yards fusible web (I recommend Mistyfuse with a teflon sheet or parchment paper).
-2 yds lightweight, non-woven, fusible interfacing (I prefer Pellon 906f).
-1 yd tear away iron on stabilizer, only needed if plan to satin stitch around applique (I recommend Sulky Totally Stable Iron-on Tear Away Stabilizer).
-clear polyester thread
-sewing machine with piecing foot, darning or free motion machine foot &
needles (topstitching).
-if you plan to satin stitch your project, 80/12 or 90/14 needles and 50 wt. thread
-iron & pressing mat (We will have 2 ironing boards and irons to share)
-large pressing surface (an old towel is ideal)
-scissors
-Micron pens size 08
-rotary cutter & cutting mat
-straight pins
-basting pins or spray
-marking utensil
-plastic baggies for extra cut collage pieces
-Grip gloves (optional, but recommended if free motion topstitching and/or quilting)
-Dritz Fray Check (optional)
-Lunch/snacks/drinks
