Kid's Sewing Camp

Kid's camp is a fun three-day class where kids can learn the basics of using a sewing machine, and leave with multiple fun projects! Welcome kids aged 7 to 15!

We will be using "A Kid's Guide to Sewing" By Sophie Kerr with Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr.

Projects include an elasticated headband, a sleepover drawstring bag with an optional zipper, a tiered skit, and optionally a reversible tote bag (If the child does not want to make one of the first three projects OR has extra time for a fourth project).

For all classes you will need;
A sewing machine in good working order
A sewing machine manual either printed or on a phone or ipad, as available
Basic sewing supplies including scissors, straight pins, and safety pins
We will have irons, ironing boards, and cutting mats available for everyone to share

For the headband you will need;
One fat quarter of fabric (or a scrap at least 13x13")
Matching polyester thread
1 piece of 1" wide elastic, at least 8" long

For the sleepover bag you will need;
For basic bag;
1 yard of fabric
1.5yards of cording for the drawstring
Matching thread
For bag with contrasting bottom;
3/4yd fabric for pocket front and back
1/4yd of contrasting fabric for the bag bottom
1.5yards or cord for the drawstring
For optional pocket;
1/4yd of fabric for pocket front and back
8+" zipper
matching thread
1/4" double sided fusible tape such as steam-a-seam
*zipper foot for your machine*

For the tiered skirt;
Fabric for the skirt top tier
Fabric for the skirt bottom tier 
3/4" wide elastic
(Use the worksheet on page 110 of the class book "A Kid's Guide to Sewing" to calculate how much fabric and elastic you need!)
1/4 yard of fabric to make binding


For the OPTIONAL Reversible Messenger bag;
*You will only be making this project if you choose to not make one of the other three projects OR if you have spare time after finishing another project.*
1/2yard each of two different 40+"wide fabrics
45" of yarn or string
1/2 yard of interfacing (optional to make the bag thicker if your fabric is very lightweight)
