Kid's Sewing Camp

Save the dates - Session 1 is July 18th, 19th, and 20th. Session 2 is July 25th, 26th, and 27th. Choose one three day session, or choose both to attend all 6 days and complete even more fun projects!

We recommend kids attending Kid's camp be at least 7 years old. They do not have to have an adult stay with them for the duration of class, but you are welcome to if you choose to do so.

All students do need to bring their own machines. We offer a wide range of intro machines that include mastery classes and shop discounts with purchase!

(Again, you can sign up for either three-day session, or sign up for both to make all 6 projects!)

Book; "Sewing Machine Basics for Children"
Your own sewing machine in good working order!
Basic sewing supplies including thread, pins or clips, and scissors

Please Take Note:


Please have your sewing machine manual in hard copy or download to a tablet or phone. Please have machine in good working order. Cleaned and oiled and a new needle. Try to purchase fabric and supplies in advance, supporting and being supported by our awesome team here at Asheville Cotton Company, in advance of each class. Kids Can Sew! Let’s have some fun. 


Day One
Appliqué Pillow Case, page 85
You will need:
Fabric 2/3 of a yard
Back fabric 2/3 of a yard
For Appliqué 10 by 8 inch piece of fabric or 1 fat quarter 
Fusible Web 20 by 18 inches or 1/2 yard.

You will need:
Two fat quarters (the same or contrast colors)
3 1/4 yards of ribbon or cording (Not available at Asheville Cotton)

You will need:
Fabric A fat quarter
Fabric B fat quarter
Fusible fleece 1/3 yard
Webbing for the strap, 1 yard

You will need:
Outside of bag 3/4 of a yard
Lining of bag 3/4 of a yard

You will need:
Note: fabrics with small print/pattern on it as fabric will be cut in small pieces.
3 strips of fabric 2 1/4 inches by 10. 
3 strips 2 1/4 by 12 inches. 
For the book backgrounds, choose contrasting pattern/color fabric, cut:
6 strips 2 1/4 by 6 1/4 inches
6 more strips measuring 2 1/4 by 5 inches
For the top background strip: 
Plain Fabric 2 1/4 by 2 1/2 long
(Lots of small scrappy pieces, a jelly roll or several 1/8yd cuts will work!)

You will need:
For the top:
A hip measurement approximately 35 1/2. Inches and a body length  21 1/2 inches. Or measure with help and a measuring tape… pictured on page 70.
If you pick out a yard of fabric, it will cover all that you need for your top. If you are very tall consider getting 1 1/4 yards .
Above description overs fabric for facing and a pocket.
