Kid's Sewing Camp!

Three projects over 3 days for kids aged 7 and up! 

Join Beth Soler (Current AB Tech Business teacher, and previous middle school Language Arts teacher.) over three afternoons to make three fun projects! 

Day one, we will go over threading our sewing machines, practice sewing straight lines on paper, then make a pillowcase. Day two, we will make a drawstring backpack. Day three, we will make a zippy pouch!

Supplies:

Drawstring Backpack pattern by Crosscut and Zippy Pouch pattern, both available from Asheville Cotton Co.
A polyester thread to blend in with your fabric choices, light gray works for most things
Sewing machine in good working order, bring your manual if you have one
ZigZag presser foot
Zipper foot

For the pillowcase-
3/4 yd fabric for main body (3/4 is for a standard sized pillow. Purchase 1 yard if you have a king sized pillow)
1/3 yd for cuff
1/8 yd for accent

For the drawstring backpack-
1/2 yard exterior fabric
1/2 yard interior fabric
3 1/2 yards of cording or ribbon

For the Zippy Pouch-
Yardage varies by size, the most you will need for any one pouch is 3/8 yd. See pattern at the bottom of this page for all fabric requirements. Double your fabric yardage to include lining fabric.
The pattern says to use various heavier materials, but we will be using regular quilting cotton and a heavy stabilizer such as Pellon 72, purchase the same yardage of stabilizer as your fabric.
*Optional* 5/8" D-ring and 5/8" swivel hook
