Select Batik fabrics which represent the colors or choose your own

Sulky Cutaway Plus - cut 16 x 22 PRIOR TO CLASS

Topstitch needle 90/14

Snippet sharp scissors or small sharp scissors

Vertical spool pin holder ( helps with metallic threads) comes off the spool in a straight line avoiding twisting of thread prevents breakage. I use “The Thread Director”

FREE MOTION EMBROIDERY FOOT, A MUST CHECK YOUR MACHINE MANUAL OR ask SYDNEY prior to class

Straight and zig zag stitching to thread paint, know how to select width and tension adjustment if need to change during stitching. Know how to drop feed dog prior to class. Make sure you have spool caps for ends of spool.

I will provide a prepared practice piece of fabric for you

Extension table for your machine helps with managing fabric while thread painting

Thread choices embroidery threads 40 wt. Rayon or 50 wt. Cotton

Bobbin thread 50 wt. Cotton ( I like Aurifil or Cotton & Steele) or your choice; be sure it is 50 wt. Fill 2 bobbins with neutral color prior to class. The threads to embellish the fabrics chosen should be a contrast to stand out but not over power. Variegated threads are also pretty adding interest, I like Sulky 30 wt. Blendables also or Mettler has a good selection

Tweezers. Sewers Aid to be used when sewing with metallic thread Please clean your machine removing lint from boobin case and feed dog area, oil your machine

Suggested threads: 40 wt. medium orange, gold, yellow, cranberry or terracotta, sage, light green/tan (variegated) Metallic orange, gold Metallic for the Sun , of course your choices depend on chosen fabrics.Sky thread depends on your fabric chosen, I like Sulky SLIVER, #8040 metallic which is opalescent blends with all fabric colors

Fabric shapes representing mountains, hill, sun and sky are to be CUT PRIOR TO CLASS. As they overlap one another building from top down to bottom add 1/2 longer to bottom of each shape for ease of placement. Follow your enlarged photo they don’t have to be exact just close enough to what you observe. Labeling the pieces helps to place on the stabilizer. For the sky I cut a piece 9 x 13 this is the first fabric put down on stabilizer.

The objective to the class is to learns how to embellish with thread; thread painting technique.

Important: to be fair to all students this homework is vital in order that all students reach the goal of thread painting, I desire for each person to be satisfied learning to thread paint

I’m available for any questions you may have for preparations and am happy to help as many times as you need prior to class. I’m looking forward to the fabric choices you’ve selected; as always please shop at Asheville Cotton they have gorgeous Batik fabrics. It's important to support our wonderful shop and staff team.

You will find machine needles, snippet scissor, Sulky Cut Away plus stabilizer, threads, Sulky variegated Blendables and Mettler threads of your choice to embellish.
