Ruler Work Quilting

Are Quilt tops languishing in your closet because free motion quilting on your home machine sounds difficult? Take the easy way out. Quilt them with rulers! For a small investment you will get a professional-looking quilt. Join me Tuesday, June 23rd , from 10 to 3 at the Asheville Cotton Co. Bring lunch – we will take a break midway.

Materials List:
1. Ruler foot: the one that is appropriate for your machine. I (Cat) will be contacting you the week before to help you choose the appropriate foot. It is not a darning or hopping foot.
2. Machine: that you can drop the feed-dogs on. And the manual for that machine.
3. Contrasting thread (not black or white, a medium-dark color works well) – Aurifil works well.
4. A Frixion marking pen and a lead pencil or sharpie. No ballpoint pens.
5. A few safety pins to hold your sandwich together.
6. Ruler work class kit, available day of class. Will include; 2/3yd of mottled light solid sandwiched with 24x24" batting and the Slim Creative Grids ruler by Angela Walters.

Optional:
1. Supreme slider
2. Extension table for your machine to give you a larger working surface
3. Quilting Gloves (free in class)
Please bring patience and a willingness to make mistakes. We are going to make mistakes and learn from them in a no stress class. We are making a practice piece and no one will ever have to see it unless you show it to them.

Instructor: Cat Allard
Cat Allard has been sewing since she was six years old, when her Aunt Dobbin put a needle in her hand and taught her the magic of sewing.  She began quilting in 1993 after graduating with a Fine Arts degree in Painting and Photography from Long Island University (C. W. Post). She began teaching classes in fabric painting, photo quilting and general quilting in 1996. Her hand-painted fabric appears in award winning fiber art quilts, as well as in her own quilts and those of other fabric-artists.  By 2000 Cat Allard added Quilt repair and restoration to her talents and working with antique quilts became a passion, restoring several historic quilts from the 1860s, as well as repairing current quilts so that they can be used again by their owners.  She has lectured on the process to local quilt guilds and evaluated many quilts suggesting the best methods for restoration and repair.  She teaches a variety of classes, including quilt making of all kinds, bags, gifts (placemats and other home items), Sashiko, Crazy quilting and Quilting with Rulers.
