Hi Everyone! This is Sydney sending out the email today. I just want to take a moment to say that I hope this email finds you and yours safe and well. We are praying for everyone affected by the hurricane in WNC and beyond. I know we are still in the middle of everything, and it's all quite overwhelming, but this is such a special tight-knit community here in these mountains, and we will make it through together. I'll get a bit more sappy at the bottom, but on to what's going on at the shop...

As of today, October 9th, the shop does have power, so we are OPEN, yay! We do not have water, so no public restroom, and we do not have cell service or wi-fi, so no phone or register at the moment. I'm actually working from home today so I can get packages shipped and this email out. Until we get water and internet services back, we are open condensed hours, 11a-4p. We will post on Facebook and send out another email as soon as that changes!

Quilt Club this Friday and Saturday!
Assuming we have electricity this Friday and Saturday, we will be having our two morning quilt club meetings at 11am! We will NOT be doing blocks this month, but we will be enjoying each other's company, so be sure to bring something for show and tell! If we do not have internet at the shop, then we will not be able to do a Facebook live video of the meeting. We also will not have a restroom unless our water is restored by then.
Since there are no blocks for you to pick up, we are still going to give you something for your completed block (Or a show and tell! We know not everyone has had power to complete blocks!)...
If you bring a completed September block to quilt club OR something for show and tell to either the Friday morning or Saturday morning meeting Oct 11th or 12th, we will give you $5 off $25+ purchase in the shop that day! AND bring your completed blocks back with you in November, as we will still give free regular blocks to quilt club attendees with completed blocks at that meeting!
We look forward to seeing you if you can make it!

From our families to yours...
We are with you, our friends and community. I am so lucky to have spent the past nine years at Asheville Cotton Co, and hope to spend many more.
Asheville and the greater WNC area beyond is where I have spent all of my 33 years. These mountains are my home and have been my family's home for many generations. This is such a beautiful special place, and that's why so many people are drawn to the area as well. Of course, the mountain views are breathtaking, but I think the people and communities here are what makes it truly special. I have seen so many different groups and different individuals coming together to take care of each other. The incredible amount of food and water and generators and sheer manpower in these mountains right now is nothing like I've ever seen. I have friends who have lost entire homes. I have friends who are helping their neighbors gut their destroyed homes so that repairs can commence. Many of us still do not have power. I still do not have running water. Most unfortunate of all, over 100 North Carolinians and counting have lost their lives, and my prayers and deepest condolences go out to their families. The tragedy of Hurricane Helene I think will affect us for a very long time, and I wish there was more we could do to magically make everything better again, but the power of community is so remarkable and moving, I think we can do anything together. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out.
“What matters is that should difference enter the world of beloved community, it can find a place of welcome, a place to belong.” - Bell Hooks
