You know we love to give back to our community here at Asheville Cotton Co. In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, we have started another tradition: a "Bra-La-La" bra decorating contest! Be sure to come by to see the bras and vote for your favorites. Get one FREE vote for your very favorite. You may also vote with any amount of money toward any bra or bras. All proceeds go to Hope Chest for Women. Hope Chest for Women offers limited financial assistance to women in Western NC who are undergoing breast or gynecological cancer treatment. This non-profit was created because women often must choose between receiving treatment and providing for their families. Hope Chest assists with financial burdens such as rent and utility bills, gas and transportation, medical bills and co-pays, lymphedema garments, food, and other unmet needs. Typically, clients are referred by hospitals and physicians, etc. This will be a tax deductible donation with a check made out to Hope Chest for Women. You can check out our Bra-La-La's on our FaceBook page here, or come in to see them in person. We got some truly fantastic entries you need to see up close! Voting goes through the end of October.
While I'm at it, I'd like to remind all of our customers, both ladies and gents, to do a monthly breast self-check. Here's a simple explanation for the ladies, and here's one for the guys.
Clean up your sewing room for a good cause!
Our annual Stash Bash continues to be a huge success. Our awesome customers have raised more than a thousand dollars each year for the Santa Pals organization right here in Asheville! You know that project (those projects) that you have just sitting there, waiting to be finished, that just aren't going to happen? Well, we are going to get rid of those pesky little suckers. Bring all of your UFOs (UnFinished Objects), WOMBATs (Wastes Of Money, Batting And Time), partially finished quilt projects, finished quilt tops you'll never quilt, and even completely finished quilts to us. We'll kick off the holiday season on Wednesday, November 14, with a big party starting at 5pm (you can arrive any time). Then, you can bid on everybody else's stash! This will be a silent auction with pens down at 6pm. You can start bidding as soon as we get the classroom ready, which should be around 3pm. All money raised will go to Asheville's very own Santa Pal organization, which has been donating toys to children in need for 82 years, since 1936! Due to the way the Santa Pal organization purchases toys in bulk, even the smallest of donations will help give a child a brighter holiday this year. We were told that Santa Pal is the only organization open on Christmas eve for parents to come get gifts for their children.
Please bring your "Stash Bash" donations by Saturday, November 10. Earlier than that is much appreciated! There's some more information here if you need it.
