Newsletter 5/20/20

Thank you so much for all your support, well-wishes and orders. We're truly blessed with great customers!

We've been working hard to add hundreds of items in the last week or so. Check it out! Asheville Cotton Co. Online Store. You can choose $5 flat rate shipping or curbside pickup during checkout. We're here Monday - Saturday, 11a-3p for pickups (except this coming Monday, Memorial Day). We've been able to keep up with same-day pickup except for some kits, which might require assembly. It's helpful if you let us know via email at ashevillecottonco@gmail.com if you're coming within an hour or two of when you placed your order. If it's going to be a few hours or the next day before you pick up, we don't need to know when you're coming.

At this time, the best way for us to help you with special orders is through our email at ashevillecottonco@gmail.com. We have helped dozens of people with projects. Just shoot us an email with what you have in mind, with pictures if you're trying to match something.

We're taking baby steps with appointments. We're starting Friday and Saturday, and we'll see how it goes. We expect to continue to open by appointment next week with more appointment slots after we see what tweaks we need to make. For information on appointments and to see the schedule, click here.

We want to keep you sewing! Email us at ashevillecottonco@gmail.com with any questions you have about your sewing machine. We're having really good results trouble-shooting via email. We are not taking in machines on a regular basis at this time, but do have an appointment list going. Please email us first, and we'll go from there.

Asheville Cotton Co. is excited to announce the dates of the 2020 Asheville Cotton Co. Customer Quilt Show. This is a very special year, as it's the tenth anniversary of the show!

This is the quilt show for the rest of us. The Customer Quilt Show is different from other shows in that you don’t have to be an expert to enter the show or to win. Any size project is welcome. Projects don't even have to be quilted or bound!

This year, the show will be different (surprise, surprise)! Send us a picture of your quilt or project to ashevillecottonco@gmail.com. We'd especially like to see your quilt on your porch or with flowers, but it's not a requirement. Something very cheery and spring-y!

Include in your email:
1) Your name
2) Name of the Quilt
3) Name of the book or pattern if you happen to know
4) The quilt's "story." Every quilt has a story. What's the story about this one? Who is it for? Why do you like it? What did you learn? That sort of thing.

We'll post pictures of the quilts on our website and on our Facebook page.

Voters will get to do a thumbs-up on their favorite quilts on the Facebook page, and may also choose to make a donation toward any quilt or quilts on our website. You're encouraged to vote on your own quilt, and get your family and friends involved as well!  100% of all donations will once again go to MANNA FoodBank right here in Asheville.

MANNA FoodBank is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving Western North Carolina since 1983 and an accredited member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. In fiscal year 2018/2019 MANNA distributed 19.8 million pounds of food through some 200+ community-based food assistance agencies in 16 Western North Carolina counties.

Quilt makers whose quilts receive the most money in donations to MANNA will win valuable prizes! We'll also have prizes for the most popular quilts on Facebook, but remember, the purpose of this show is to raise money, so the best prizes will go to the entries that earn the most money. This event typically raises several thousand dollars each year. Over the years, Asheville Cotton Co. and our customers have contributed more than $20,000 to MANNA FoodBank. That's more than 60,000 meals!

We're taking quilt picture entries through Sunday, May 31.

We don't know exactly how long it will take to get the show up on the website and Facebook, so we'll be letting you know that later. Thanks for understanding :-)

Terry at ISharpenIt is coming soon to sharpen scissors! Drop off your scissors, garden tools and more by Friday, June 5 here at the store (Monday - Saturday, 11a-3p), and he'll get them back by Monday, June 8. You can see a list of everything he can sharpen at www.ISharpenIt.com.

Here's pictures of some of the 3000+ masks you provided to essential workers in the last six weeks! A special shoutout to our friend Vanessa Davidson for coordinating this effort! I'm still getting masks from you guys, and am getting requests for masks from non-profits and other groups. I'm not going to be selling any more at this time (although there are offers), but would like to find organizations who need free masks for people who can't afford them. Maybe we can help. If you know of a need for free masks, please email me at ashevillecottonco@gmail.com. If you have masks you would like to donate, I'll find a good home for them. You can drop off Monday - Saturday, 11a-3p, (except this coming Monday, Memorial Day), or mail them to Asheville Cotton Co., 1378 Hendersonville Road Suite B, Asheville, NC 28803. Thanks again!
